Empowering young people with additional needs with short-stay living experiences at Lilac House

Our What Next? programme in partnership with The Big Lottery Fund Northern Ireland offers young people living with additional needs access to vital Independent Living skills training.

A key focus of the programme offers young people between 19 and 25-years-old a chance to experience short-term stays at our modern and fully accessible centre Lilac House (Linked Independent Living and Advice Centre) in the heart of South Belfast.

Using trained facilitators, young people from across Belfast and surrounding areas can participate in sleepovers at the centre, usually on a Friday or Saturday.

Participants have access to a modern kitchen and can make use of a range of adapted equipment (if required) to prepare meals, snacks and drinks throughout their stay.

Most recently, we held a Boys Night (Friday 2nd August). This experience gave participants a chance to interact with peers, socialise, make use of public transport, order food in restaurants, visit the cinema and complete routine tasks at Lilac House such as making breakfast, washing up, tidying after themselves, being a roommate, making their beds and lots more.

Check out the photo gallery and see how the boys got on as they caught the train to Yorkgate, got something to eat and enjoyed the cinema before catching the train back to Lilac House to listen to some tunes before retiring to bed.

'A fab night' was the feedback.

THANK YOU to our facilitators Robert and Stephen for hosting the night!
